Status Of Maithili Music Industry

Musicians like Dhirendra Premarshi and others based in Kathmandu have contributed greatly in spreading Maithili Music to the masses through various Fm Stations spread across the Terai region of Nepal.As the Mobile is used as FM Players the music reached to the every strata of the society.This has given a great boost to the Maithili Music Industry.But gone are the days of Vidyapati Sangeet;now raunchy numbers rule the roost.

There was a huge chunk of our population who was consuming Bhojpuri Music without realising that it was different from Maithili Music.That segment has  come back now but for that Maithili Music had to be adulterated.Now you will find obscene lyrics and vulgar songs which can embarrass you if that is blaring inside your home.But this kind of stuff has large consumer base so it has become the trend and it is growing stronger by the day.

There is a great section of our society who for the first time have access to it.It has now pervaded to the low st section of the society and that is huge and hold immense promise.This sudden opportunity is being exploited by some dubious fellows who are not worth being called a musician.Hopefully as the market matures these kind of fellows are weeded out and once again sanity returns.

There are some young singers like Rajni Pallavi who has become popular for her quality singing.There are many more who will be at the forefront very soon.We need to spread and strengthen Maithili Music even further but we must not let it to degenerate it any further in order to achieve that goal.
